COMMUNITY OF COMMUNES
History of an intercommunal life ...
When this January 18, 1994 was signed at the Habitation Mûrat the birth certificate of the Community of Communes of Marie-Galante we were convinced that an important page in the history of our island was being written.
More than solemnity, it is the desire to act and the hope for a better future that have remained etched in the minds of our compatriots. The Community of Communes is not a sudden creation. It is the culmination of a movement of cooperation which was born in 1965 and the expression of a political will of the Mayors to do everything to overcome the quarrels of yesteryear.
Since its creation, the Community of Communes has widened its furrow by providing answers to the concrete problems encountered by the citizens of the three communes with regard to the supply of drinking water, rural electrification and sanitation. But above all the Community of Communes wanted to deliver Marie-Galante from immobility and the absence of a Project.
Aware that economic development only becomes relevant as soon as it integrates culture, environmental protection and citizenship, the Community of Communes has endeavored to provide Marie-Galante with a Sustainable Development Plan which allowed the studies which will lead to the creation of the Marie-Galante Country.
This long journey would not have been possible without the commitment of Mayors and elected officials, whatever their political affiliation. The best interests prevailed when it was necessary to pass the decisive stages of our community construction.
The Community of Communes has made it its duty to build its action in concert with local actors. In the Marie-Galante Economic and Social Council at first and in the Development Council afterwards, they made the voices of all the builders of the Marie-Galante Country heard.
The Community of Communes has today reached the age of full maturity. More than ever, it must be appropriated by all marie-galantais to overcome fate and hoist Marie-Galante on the ramp of progress, social justice and responsibility.
Major partner of the Rallye des Iles du Soleil, the CCMG offers logistical and organizational assistance on their territory. In addition to the warm welcome, the island of Marie-Galante is part of a desire to develop blue, ecological and responsible tourism.
