MARIE-GALANTE
BAIE DE SAINT-LOUIS, MARIE-GALANTE
Marie-Galante, authentic island of the Guadeloupe Islands, will host for the sixth consecutive year the Rally des Iles du Soleil. Preserved, generous and natural, the island is the dreamed end point for a transatlantic cruise before setting off to explore the Guadeloupe region!
MARIE-GALANTE
Land of rural traditions
A truly authentic island, Marie-Galante is a land of rural traditions and a peaceful way of life. Marie-Galante is the new destination of the French West Indies. Covering an area of 158 km², the island, more commonly known as "la grande galette" for its circular shape and low relief (editor's note: the highest peak, le morne constant, rises to 204m), has three communes and 12,410 inhabitants. Marie-Galante, which once boasted 106 mills, is also known as "l'île aux cent moulins" or "la Grande dépendance".
Marie-Galante, the arrival island for this transatlantic race, will be a fitting welcome for the fleet, and a fabulous departure point for those wishing to explore the other islands of Guadeloupe!
SAINT-LOUIS
The finish of the Rallye will take place in the bay of Saint-Louis, on the downwind coast of the island of Marie-Galante. On site, meet up at the event on Saint-Louis beach, with your feet in the water, and enjoy the pleasures of this land of tranquility.
"Saint-Louis is a small rural commune of 3,000 souls, the largest on Marie-Galante. Its past is rich in events, its Caribbean heritage well and truly exists and it still preserves traces of ancestral life (survival of old trades, charcoal, small cane mills, ox carts and above all the traditional character and hospitality of its population), all the better to bear witness to future generations through the teachings and messages they convey."
COMMUNITY OF
COMMUNES OF MARIE-GALANTE
Major Partner of the Rallye des Iles du Soleil
Marie-Galante community was born of the determination of local politicians to launch a development plan with the creation of the Communauté de Communes de Marie-Galante (C.C.M.G.) on January 18, 1994. The mayors of the island's three communes - Capesterre-de-Marie-Galante, Grand Bourg and Saint Louis - pledged to take up the challenge of upgrading infrastructure and economic development, promoting solidarity, reducing unemployment and managing land use within a framework of respect for the environment and sustainability.
The Communauté de Communes de Marie-Galante supports the Rallye des Iles du Soleil, offering logistical and organizational assistance on their territory.
Partner of the Rallye des Iles du Soleil
Year after year, Marie-Galante attracts lovers of authenticity and nature. Perhaps the Distillerie Agricole BIELLE has something to do with it!
In fact, this distillery, which perpetuates the age-old tradition of making agricultural rum from pure sugarcane juice, is the only rum production unit in the Caribbean to comply with environmental regulations, thanks to a special method of treating its vinasses.
The Bielle distillery supports the Rallye des Iles du Soleil, thank you!
